Phytol

Phytol is derived from moss, and the ingredient improves molecular traffic into and out of the nucleus in aged cells.  It helps the skin to quickly adapt to environmental changes. It significantly improves skin moisture, even in stressful conditions, strengthens skin resilience against urban aggressors, improves skin hydration, provides visible improvement of skin homogeneity, refines skin and creates a flawless complexion. Phytol also supports the activity of all other anti-aging actives which work through stimulation of gene expression.

Phytol has been demonstrated to significantly attenuate melanin production by reducing the expression of tyrosinase and tyrosinase related protein 1. Phytol suppressed α-MSH-induced melanogenesis in B16F10 murine melanoma cells without inducing any toxic effects. Phytol inhibited hyperpigmentation by degrading MITF through ROS-induced ERK phosphorylation. Studies  suggest that phytol can be used as a skin-whitening ingredient, therapeutic agent against hyperpigmentation-related skin diseases, and cosmetic agent.
