Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 — a relatively new addition to the list of peptides that are used in skincare (since 2012). Tripeptide-5 is produced synthetically from 3 chains of amino acids linked together with fatty acids with a unique sequence to mimic the human body’s own mechanism to produce collagen via TGF-beta. This works by activating the release of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) within the epidermis. Palmitoyl tripeptide can enter epidermis and can penetrate deep into the dermis, where the chains of amino acids communicate with the skin’s collagen production systems to grow healthy tissue, which is a significant factor in achieving smooth, wrinkle-free skin.
