Cytokines
Cytokines are molecules (small water-soluble peptides and proteins) produced by cells (especially in the immune system) in your body that communicate with other cells to control and influence the body’s natural aging and skin repair processes (cell signaling). They can act on various target cells, influence cell behavior and are crucial for cell communication during immune responses and inflammatory processes. Cytokines cannot cross the lipid bilayer of cells to enter the cytoplasm. They act as regulators, modulating the functional activities of individual cells and tissues to help facilitate repairs, fight infections, strengthen immunity, and repel harmful microbes.
